April saw three serious fires in care homes in The Netherlands. On 9th April a fire, thought to be started by a cigar at about 18:30, led to the death of a man in the St Joris care home in Oirschot. Earlier that day some 30 residents of the Onderwatershof care home in Rijswijk had to be evacuated when a fire started in a meter cupboard. And the same morning a fire in De Schans care home in Emmen led to 20 residents being evacuated.
