The BBC reports that a fire on 30th January has caused major damage to a new hospital which was due to open in April. Fire was reported at 22:45 in the £90m (€120m) West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. Cumbria Fire & Rescue sent five fire engines, which took four hours to put the fire out. The energy building, which was to supply the hospital’s power, has been destroyed. There was no report of a sprinkler system in the building. In England sprinklers are rarely installed in hospitals and this was not the first fire to cause major damage in a hospital.
