The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reports that the Norwegian government has announced it will invest NOK 10 million to fit sprinklers in all 28 of the country’s wooden-stave churches. The work began after Fantoft church burned to the ground in 1992. At that time the fire protection was upgraded in some churches. Today 21 churches are protected and the plan is to complete the work by 2015. The work is all the more necessary because many of the churches are remote, far from the nearest fire station.
