During the summer the British government ran a public consultation on its proposals to revise the guidance for fire protection of schools.

The main change was to remove an expectation, originally published in 2007 with cross-party support, that sprinklers should be fitted. Several national newspapers published articles critical of the proposal, Members of Parliament have asked questions about it, councillors have publicly disagreed with it and every Fire Chief in the country has written to the Minister to express their disagreement and concerns. The proposals are based on work under the previous government and we are hopeful that the new government will rethink.
