The fire in a care home in Quebec on 23rd January, which has killed at least 30 people, has led legislators and fire chiefs not only in Quebec but in other parts of the country to call for sprinklers to be fitted in both new and existing care homes. In Ontario the Health Minister, Deb Matthews, said that the issue should be looked at again, while in Alberta the Edmonton Fire Chief Ken Block and politicians are calling for sprinklers in existing care homes.
