The Turkish Fire Protection Association, TUYAK, has produced an English translation of the Turkish Building Fire Safety Regulations. There are many requirements and incentives for sprinklers, including in new buildings to prevent external vertical fire spread; the spacing of emergency exits and stairs; limits on travel distances in residential buildings; in enclosed car parks; in oil-filled transformers; in high-rise buildings; in large, multi-storey hotels; and in shopping centres. In existing buildings, sprinklers are required in non-residential high-rise buildings; in large hotels of more than two storeys; in large, multi-storey shopping centres. For new buildings there are in many cases eductions of 30 minutes in fire resistance and increases in maximum compartment size if sprinklers are fitted.
